The story we tell about the past influences how we plan for the future. We could look back on 2018 and remember sad events and fear the New Year. Or we can choose to smile at the little joys and the unnoticed goodness.
The Christmas story speaks mainly of hope and little heroes, even if it includes rejection, poverty and arrogance. Christians celebrate the birth of a God who is in solidarity with us in our littleness.
The 12 days of Christmas are an opportunity to find peace with the past and build hope for the future.
Our community is crying out for adults who will help the child in each of us to face 2019 with trust and courage, rather than with dread.
It is easy to wish others a 'Happy Christmas'. But can I encourage everyone to spend time over the holiday, giving thanks for the little blessings and the big hearts that have enriched our lives.
