Vocations Week - Tuesday - Seminarians

Tuesday 26th Seminarians

God is an artisan, moulding men in formation for the priesthood like potter's clay, if the seminarian will allow the Lord to shape him. It is a work that requires the courage of letting ourselves be formed by the Lord, to transform our heart and our life. The People of God are "the great wheel that forms the clay of our priesthood. When we go out among the People of God, we let ourselves be formed by their expectations; touching their wounds, we realize that the Lord transforms our life. The question that must form within us, when we go down into the potter's workshop, is this: What priest do I want to be? A drawing-room priest, calm and orderly, or a missionary disciple whose heart burns for the Master and for the People of God? One who grows comfortable in his own wellbeing or a disciple who walks? One who is lukewarm who prefers a quiet life, or a prophet who reawakens the desire for God in the heart of man?

Pope Francis discussing the Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis, Oct 2017

Scripture

Mk 9: 30. So he sat down, and called the twelve to him and said, 'if anyone wants to be first, he must make himself the last of all and the servant of all.'

Intercessions

For all those now discerning their vocations in Christ, that they may be filled with the Holy Spirit and nourished by the bread of life, Lord hear us.

For all men and women now considering their vocation, that they will take heart in Jesus' call to serve Him Lord hear us.

Reflection

By your prayer and intercession, you are the advocates of all who seek God, who are journeying towards God. You bear witness to a hope which, against every form of hopelessness, silent or spoken, points to the fidelity and the loving concern of God. Hence you are on the side of those who are crushed by misfortune and cannot break free of their burdens. You bear witness to that Love which gives itself for humanity and thus conquered death.

—Pope Benedict XVI, with priests, religious, and seminarians in Austria, 2007

Prayer

Father, we're your people, the work of your hands. So precious are we in your sight that you sent your Son, Jesus. Jesus calls us to heal the broken-hearted, to dry the tears of those who mourn, to give hope to those who despair, and to rejoice in your steadfast love. We, the baptized, realize our call to serve. Help us to know how. Call forth from among us priests. With our hearts you continue to love your people. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever3.
