Job Title: Choir Director
Reporting To: Administrator of Parish of Templemore: St Eugene’s
Hours of Work: 10hrs per week
Place of Work: St Eugene's Cathedral, Francis St, Derry
Job Role: St Eugene’s Cathedral is recruiting for an experienced choir director to lead and manage all aspects of the cathedral choir. They will ensure that the music enhances worship services and aligns with the church’s liturgical themes.
Job Responsibilities: • The provision of music at the weekly Eucharist as designated by the Administrator of the Cathedral (Currently 12.30pm Mass on Sundays).
• Rehearsing the choir (regular weekly rehearsal)-currently Wednesday evenings 8.00pm-9.45pm and a shorter rehearsal – currently 45 mins before the Sunday Eucharist.
• Training the choir in vocal and choral technique.
• Maintaining a repertoire of standard sacred choral music.
• Ensuring the regular singing of plainchant, polyphonic renaissance music, contemporary sacred music, classical church music, church music as promoted by the National Liturgy Centre in respect of emerging sacred music for the Irish church.
• Being committed to the inclusion of sacred music in the Irish language as part of the liturgy.
• Active recruitment of new members for the choir.
• Management and training of Choir Scholars.
• The provision of performance opportunities of standard choral masterpieces such as a setting of the Requiem or Oratorio (at least once per year).
• Having an openness to links with and actively seeking opportunities to sing with choirs from the Catholic or other faith traditions in the city and diocese.
• The Choir Director works in close collaboration with the Reverend Administrator of St Eugene’s Cathedral and the Diocesan Director of Sacred Music.
