SUNDAY REFLECTION - Temperance Sunday, 19th FEBRUARY 2023

“…families have turned the other cheek, they have walked the extra mile, they have done their best to help somebody confront their addiction.

They turned the other cheek because promises have been broken, promises were made again, promises were broken again. They would give the shirt off their back, the roof of their house if they could get help for a relation, a colleague, a friend…”  

This Sunday, Fr Robert McCabe, Spiritual Director of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association of the Sacred Heart, reflects on Temperance Sunday. 

He invites us to be in solidarity with those who are suffering because of alcoholism or addiction. He reminds us that as we make our synodal journey together, we are called to get to know the struggles and the vulnerabilities of others. 

The Serenity Prayer

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
